FAIR TO MIDLAND Sign With SERJ TANKIAN's SERJICAL STRIKE RECORDS
April 12, 2006Dallas-based quintet FAIR TO MIDLAND have just inked a deal with Serjical Strike Records, the label headed by SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman Serj Tankian. The band that had been touted by Music Connection as one of the top 100 unsigned bands of 2005 can no longer carry that distinction in 2006, as they embark on their new journey of becoming heralded as one of the top signed bands for years to come.
Founded by members Andrew Sudderth (vocals) and Cliff Campbell (guitars) and later solidified by Brett Stowers (drums),Jon Dicken (bass) and Matt Langley (keyboards),FAIR TO MIDLAND has been working diligently with a D.I.Y. ethic that has generated "inter.funda.stifle", their independently recorded and distributed album that has kept them consistently touring throughout the United States in support of it.
With a sound that has been described as a "mutant offspring of RUSH, PINK FLOYD, DREAM THEATER, THE MARS VOLTA, GARY NUMAN and PANTERA," FAIR TO MIDLAND have crafted a live show that is as invigorating as it is enlightening by fusing visceral energy and amazing musicianship that has gripped all that have seen them play, including Tankian.
After hearing "inter.funda.stifle", Tankian was anxious to see the band perform and had the opportunity to do so this past January at Sunset Strip hotspot The Roxy Theater in Hollywood, followed by a second show two nights later in Malibu. It was seeing the live show that had him itching to be involved with the band through his label Serjical Strike as well as offering to executive produce FAIR TO MIDLAND's next studio offering.
"They are one of the best live unsigned bands I have ever seen," said Tankian. "Their songs are moody and dynamic, not dependent on one catchy beat or emotion to present their art."
Currently writing new songs for a future release on Serjical Strike Records, FAIR TO MIDLAND also have a few shows slated in their native state of Texas and into neighboring Oklahoma throughout April and May. Their performance at the Granada Theater in Dallas on May 12 is an unofficial celebration for the signing and will definitely be one that is not easily forgotten.
